At the foot of the Alps, right where Monviso expresses all its majesty, lies the ancient city inextricably linked to the history of the surrounding area and the fortunes of the entire Savoy Dynasty.
Pinerolo, which today evokes the magical experience of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, has been the scene of events of great historical impact since the Middle Ages.
This enchanting town was a ‘Free Commune’, but also the capital of the first Piedmontese state, was French for no less than 120 years and also the scene of the ‘Iron Mask’ affair.
Pinerolo is above all the undisputed ‘City of Chivalry’: between the 19th and 20th centuries, the School of the same name was home to Federigo Caprilli, universally recognised as the father of ‘natural horsemanship’.
Losing oneself in the squares or under the elegant arcades is a bit like reliving that enchanting Belle Époque atmosphere.
